New Zealand's Mortality Review Committees

There are currently four mortality review committees, plus a number of sub-groups, in New Zealand.
All of the Committees were established under sections 11 and 18 of the
New Zealand Public Health and Disability Act 2000,
and they all report to the Minister of Health.

The Child and Youth Mortality Review Committee (CYMRC) was established by the Minister of Health to review deaths of children and young people aged 28 days to 24 years. The CYMRC's aim is to find ways to prevent such deaths in the future.

The Perinatal and Maternal Mortality Review Committee (PMMRC) is an independent committee that advises the Minister of Health on how to reduce the number of deaths of babies and mothers in New Zealand.

The Family Violence Death Review Committee (FVDRC) reviews all deaths related to family violence in New Zealand.

The Perioperative Mortality Review Committee (POMRC) is a newly established committee that will review all deaths related to surgery.
